The NSW Government hosted Motorcycle Safety Roundtable held on Tuesday 29 April 2025. The forum used a safe systems focus to consider factors contributing to motorcycle road trauma and steps that could save lives. ACRS was represented by NSW Chapter Chair Mr Mick Timms and Deputy Chair Dr Tasha Prabhakharan.
One aspect examined was strengthening safety at the novice level with data showing the start of the learn-to-ride phase is the most dangerous time for motorcyclists. This is the opposite of learning to drive a car which is statistically the safest phase of graduated licensing.
There was also discussion around protective clothing and the work done by MotoCAP. Mr Shane Lennard, Chair of the Australian Motorcycle Council, said “safe people is a neglected part of the safe system.”
