The Australasian College of Road Safety (ACRS) is proud to announce the launch of the Road Safety Body of Knowledge (RS BoK) – the world’s first dedicated Body of Knowledge for the road safety profession.
Developed with contributions from road safety experts, researchers and practitioners, the RS BoK brings together contemporary research, evidence-based practice and the principles that underpin modern road safety. It provides a shared foundation for professionals, students, educators, policymakers and anyone seeking to better understand how road trauma can be prevented.
Launching alongside the RS BoK is What is Road Safety? The Essentials, a new online, self-paced learning course that introduces the fundamentals of road safety and how improving the whole system can reduce deaths and serious injuries. Built directly from the Road Safety Body of Knowledge, the course explores the complexity of road safety, the many disciplines involves and the practical frameworks that support safer outcomes. Additional lessons will continue to be released throughout 2026 as the course expands.
While this marks a significant milestone, it is only the beginning.
The Road Safety Body of Knowledge and the accompanying e-learning platform have been designed as living resources that will continue to evolve as new evidence emerges, and the profession contributes its expertise. The ACRS invites members and the broader road safety community to engage with these resources and help shape their ongoing development.
The ACRS extends its sincere thanks to the many road safety professionals whose knowledge, dedication and generosity made this world-first initiative possible. Their collaboration has created a lasting resource that will support stronger capability and more consistent practice across the global road safety profession for years to come.
