The Australasian College of Road Safety’s (ACRS) Road Safety Body of Knowledge (RS BoK), is a free-to-access resource for road safety professionals, supported by the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts and the Government of Western Australia Road Safety Commission.
What is the Road Safety BoK?
The Road Safety Body of Knowledge is a world first for road safety: An open-source, globally accessible digital repository of the concepts, principles, evidence, standards, methods, and accepted practices that define a the global road safety profession, it’s many disciplines and fields of research. In other words, it is essential knowledge for practice in road safety and the foundation for education, professional development, research, and decision making.
As an organisation, this has been our most ambitious work yet, and it’s only with the immeasurable dedication of our esteemed member-volunteers, responsible for planning, writing and reviewing every chapter, insight or snapshot within the first edition, that we have seen this work through to realisation.
Why do we need a Road Safety Body of Knowledge
A Body of Knowledge establishes a framework for education, training and certification or accreditation programmes for those working in the field of road safety. Our approach to developing this Body of Knowledge is based on that used in occupational health and safety which has been highly successful in increasing the status and professionalism in that field. The Road Safety Body of Knowledge takes a transdisciplinary approach, integrating the various disciplines that currently contribute to road safety to construct new frameworks and knowledge about road safety to go beyond these narrower disciplinary perspectives.
How to interact with the Road Safety Body of Knowledge
The Road Safety Body of Knowledge is a living (evolving and frequently-updated) and interactive resource, comprising chapters, insights (mini chapters about a specific topic) and snapshots (coming soon).
