E-rideables are transforming how people move around our communities. Alongside their increasing popularity, health services and researchers are gaining new insights into the types of injuries occurring, the behaviours contributing to crashes, and the resulting burden on the health system.
As the ACRS WA Chapter’s contribution to the Australasian College of Road Safety’s E-Rideable Safety Series, this webinar brings together leading clinicians and researchers to explore the evidence emerging from Western Australia.

Felicity Heath, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Emergency Department of Perth Children’s Hospital
Perth Children’s Hospital continues to see increasing rates of trauma presentations related to e-scooters and other e-rideables. Felicity will discuss the developmental and physiological differences in children and adolescents which impact on their risks of injury as well as the specific injury patterns seen.
Prof Dieter G Weber MBBS FRACS, Head of Trauma Service & Director of Trauma, Royal Perth Hospital; Head of Department, General Surgery, Royal Perth Hospital; Clinical Professor, UWA, Curtin University & The University of Newcastle; Vice President, Australian and New Zealand Association for the Surgery of Trauma
Professor Weber is one of Australia’s leading trauma surgeons and directs trauma services at Western Australia’s State Trauma Centre. He has led and contributed to significant research examining e-scooter-related trauma, including serious injury, traumatic brain injury and the growing burden on intensive care and surgical services.
Dr Paul Roberts, Associate Professor, School of Psychological Science & Deputy Director, Western Australian Centre for Road Safety Research, The University of Western Australia
Dr Roberts is a behavioural researcher whose work explores road user behaviour, risk-taking and compliance within transport systems. He will present findings from research examining risky behaviours and regulation compliance among e-riders in metropolitan Perth and discuss what these behaviours reveal about e-rideable safety.
