The involvement of E-bikes in road crashes and risky driving behaviour appears to be increasing and is emphasised by frequent news media reports. Many of these incidents appear to involve riders who may lack the skills, awareness and attitudes required to safely negotiate their journey, increasing risks not only for themselves but for those with whom they share the road environment.

While calls for greater enforcement of these risky behaviours grow louder, certain challenges make this option less than simple. For example, e-bikes are not required to display numberplates (obfuscating identification), riders are not required to be licenced and many riders are below licencing age which complicates the legal process.

The ACRS Road Policing Network warmly invites you to attend this webinar where you will hear from Professor Julie Brown (George Institute), Assistant Commissioner David Driver (NSW Police) and Inspector Peter McKennie (NZ Police) who will explore the context of the problem, the challenges enforcement agencies face and what potential solutions are being developed as they attempt to reduce the risks.
