City of Casey Council, presented by Natalie Ashton and Patrice Smith
School precinct safety rarely has neat, linear solutions. In this presentation, the City of Casey Council will share how Federal NRSAG funding created the space to test, learn and adapt, building dedicated project capability, using MEL to shape decisions in real time, and trialling locally tailored approaches. That learning was then converted into a practical guide consisting of a framework and delivery model designed to help councils scale safer school precinct work across diverse school contexts.

Passing the Parent Test; Using community data to make getting to school safe, presented by Prue Oswin – Sidelines Traffic
Prue Oswin CPEng is a specialist active travel engineer working across Australia with local governments, state agencies, and the private sector. She supports organisations to plan for evidence-based solutions by combining Safe System principles with community insight to identify where networks are not meeting user needs. Her work focuses on turning complex challenges into clear, practical and deliverable solutions that improve safety, accessibility and value for money.

Auckland Transport, presented by Chatura Siriwardane
How do you address persistent safety and congestion issues outside schools when traditional engineering solutions don’t quite fit? This presentation explores how New Zealand’s first “School Street” was implemented, why it worked, what the response was from the local community and what lessons emerged for local councils looking for low cost, scalable interventions.
