Road trauma is preventable. But achieving safer roads requires an understanding of a complex system – one that brings together people and expertise from engineering, planning, psychology, health, policing, research, policy and many other disciplines.
Developed by ACRS, What is Road Safety? The Essentials provides a practical overview of the principles, evidence and approaches that underpin contemporary road safety.
Drawing on the Road Safety Body of Knowledge, the online, self-paced course covers the core principles of road safety practice through 16+ engaging and interactive lessons.
Topics include road user behaviour and error, roads and streets, vehicles, systems thinking, prevention and intervention, road safety management, the global road trauma crisis, and the evolution of road safety practice.
Designed for new and experienced professionals
For those new to road safety, the course provides the language, frameworks and evidence base needed to contribute with confidence.
For experienced professionals, it provides an opportunity to step back from a particular area of expertise and understand how that work fits within the broader road safety system – and how different disciplines can work together to achieve better outcomes.
The complete course provides more than 10 hours of professional development, can be completed at your own pace, and includes a certificate on completion.
