Road safety leaders recognised in Australia Day 2026 Honours

The Australasian College of Road Safety (ACRS) congratulates several leaders from Australia’s road safety community who have been recognised in the Australia Day 2026 Honours, acknowledging their sustained contributions to reducing road trauma through research, policy, advocacy, enforcement, and professional leadership.

ACRS members recognised for road safety leadership

Mr Rob McInerney AO was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to international road safety and management programs, to infrastructure planning, and to engineering. A long-standing ACRS Fellow and member, Mr McInerney is internationally recognised for his leadership in evidence-based road safety through the International Road Assessment Program (iRAP) and his contribution to Safe System-aligned infrastructure policy and practice. Emeritus Professor Marcus Ramsay Wigan AM was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to engineering, to road safety, and to tertiary education. Professor Wigan, also an ACRS member, has made an enduring contribution to road safety through transport systems research, policy development, and academic leadership over several decades.

ACRS contribution recognised through professional service

Dr Nancy Diane Lane OAM received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to tertiary education. Dr Lane held the position of Managing Editor of the ACRS Journal of Road Safety from 2010 to 2011, recognising her contribution to strengthening professional road safety communication and knowledge exchange within the sector.

Other road safety-related honours

Mr Eli James Murn OAM was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to road safety advocacy, recognising his long-standing commitment to community-based road safety awareness and behaviour change initiatives.

Senior Constable Emma Victoria Wright APM received the Australian Police Medal (APM) for distinguished service. She is recognised for specialist work in traffic and crash investigations, major crash reconstruction, and ongoing road safety education and advocacy, including engagement with young road users and community programs.

Superintendent Paul Michael Daly APM was also awarded the Australian Police Medal, for his leadership of aerial policing operations, proactive surveillance significantly improved road safety outcomes alongside broader public safety benefits.
