Join in the discussion and provide input into the discussion paper ‘Towards safer and more liveable urban streets’.
“A good city – a people city – is a city with attractive conditions, a wide range of optimal activities – and many people to experience it.” – Danish Architect, Jan Gehl.
The discussion paper explores issues based on the idea that “good cities require a variety of quality urban spaces and they need to be connected to one another by safe, attractive walking streets”. The discussion paper is available at: https://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/sites/default/files/2024-12/Towards-safer-and-more-livable-urban-streets.pdf
As stated, the paper builds upon and discusses designing “urban streets in a way that will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, without unduly restricting other vehicle movement around the streets, is the focus. Traditional road design has prioritised meeting the needs of cars and large vehicles and has failed to take account of the needs of pedestrians and cyclists early enough in the process”.
Join us in discussion the content of the paper and providing input for Engineers Australia’s Transport Australia Society to further develop the paper and way forward.
The discussion will be facilitated by Engineers Australia Transport Australia Society representative Emmerson Richardson.
