ACRS congratulates ANCAP on safety testing of large (pick-up) vehicles

The Australasian College of Road Safety congratulates ANCAP on the testing of large utility vehicles, an important step in understanding their crash avoidance capabilities.

As these vehicles become increasingly popular on Australian roads, it is vital that testing continues to address the safety of all road users, particularly those most vulnerable, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

Research highlights significant risks: SUVs are up to eight times more likely to kill children and are substantially more lethal to adult pedestrians compared with smaller vehicles (Source).

The ACRS looks forward to the continued development of testing protocols that consider the full impact of these vehicle types and support evidence-based measures to prevent serious injury and save lives.
