Story by Michael Timms, ACRS NSW Chapter Chair
The NSW Chapter Committee took the opportunity to open its monthly meeting on Tuesday 25 November to the broader membership. Thanks to Transport for NSW who provided the venue, 19 people attended the meeting in person with a further seven online, with many taking the opportunity to take in dinner afterwards.
“There is so much going on in NSW we wanted to talk directly to ACRS members,” NSW Chapter Chair Mick Timms said.
With the current NSW Road Safety Action Plan concluding in 2026, Mr David Wakelin spoke about the development of the 2031 Road Safety Action Plan.
“It was a sneak peek telling us work is underway, and there will be public information sessions in the new year,” Mr Timms said.
“As always, be sure to read the ACRS Weekly Alert for more information.
Mr Timms also spoke about the 2026 Australasian Road Safety Conference, 26-29 October, which returns to Sydney for the first and only time this decade.
Members were given an outline of the organisational structure and were introduced to Joanne Bennett and David Beck, Scientific Committee chair and deputy chair respectively, as well as Mick Timms and Tasha Prabhakar, chair and deputy chair of the Host Committee.
“There will be occasions when the broader membership will be able to help with ideas and tasks so to have people putting their hands up to help at this early stage augers well for conference.
The meeting was also briefed on the recent establishment of NSW Parliamentary Friends of Road Safety, and the 2026 PhD Invitational honouring the late Dr Prasannah Prabhakharan, which UNSW has again agreed to host, on 21 May.
