ACRS Attends Asia-Pacific Regional Road Safety Conference in Manila, Philippines

Dr Ingrid Johnston, CEO of the Australasian College of Road Safety (ACRS), attended the Asia-Pacific Regional Road Safety Conference in Manila, Philippines, from 9-11 September.

The conference brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including governments, multilateral institutions, the private sector, civil society, and research institutions, to discuss road safety financing in Asia and the Pacific.

Sessions focused on elevating investments in road safety, strengthening the business case for funding, and aligning financing with broader priorities such as sustainable development, climate resilience, and public health.

Key topics included improving outcomes for vulnerable road users, particularly powered two-wheeler riders, and enhancing collaboration across sectors.

During the conference, Dr Johnston was invited to participate on two panels, and also hosted a meeting with members of the ACRS International Outreach Chapter. This provided an excellent opportunity for members to connect, share experiences, and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing road safety in their respective regions.

The meeting was a really enjoyable event, allowing participants to strengthen professional ties and engage with hard-working road safety professionals from across the Asia-Pacific. It highlighted the value of international collaboration in addressing shared challenges and reinforced ACRS’s commitment to supporting road safety leadership and knowledge-sharing at a global level.
