SA ACRS and AITPM Joint Event During Australian Road Safety Week

On Friday 16 May 2025, the South Australian Chapter of the Australasian College of Road Safety (SA ACRS) partnered with the Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and Management (AITPM) to host a well-attended joint event during Australian Road Safety Week. Held at the Crown Hotel in Adelaide, the event brought together 60 attendees from across the road safety, transport, engineering, and local government sectors.

The event featured six engaging speakers who shared diverse perspectives and insights into road safety initiatives and research:

  1. Holly Scott delivered a powerful personal account of surviving a serious vehicle crash, highlighting the long-term physical and mental trauma that followed.
  2. Adam Wilmot (GHD) showcased recent data-driven road safety projects undertaken by GHD, emphasising the role of data in targeting interventions.
  3. Sarah Clark (Department for Infrastructure and Transport) outlined South Australia’s 2025–2027 Road Safety Action Plan, detailing upcoming strategic priorities.
  4. David Elliott, former Adelaide City Councillor, reflected on key road safety initiatives implemented during his tenure in local government.
  5. Mario Mongiardini (CASR) presented on the trial of Rural Junction Activated Warning Signs (RJAWS) and perceptual countermeasures to reduce vehicle speeds in rural areas.
  6. Tanya Bacic (City of Unley) discussed council-led initiatives, including area-wide speed reductions and community-focused safety interventions.

The event was generously sponsored by GHD, RAA, and Safe System Solutions Pty Ltd. Their support enabled a meaningful exchange of ideas, experiences, and research aimed at reducing road trauma in South Australia and beyond.

SA ACRS thanks all speakers, sponsors, and attendees for contributing to an inspiring and informative event.
