Professor Ann Williamson

2022 – Present

Ann was on the ACRS Executive as Secretary for one two-year term before being elected as President. She is Emeritus Professor at UNSW Sydney and a Fellow of the ACRS. She was Director of the Transport and Road Safety (TARS) Research Centre for nearly a decade until retiring at the end of 2018. She is recognised for road safety research, especially on understanding the role of the road user within the road safety system. She is committed to ensuring research evidence is used to develop best possible road safety policy and practice. Her previous contributions to the ACRS include developing an NHMRC-supported proposal for a National Road Safety Research Strategy. She has also been involved in a wide range of technical and advisory groups for road authorities, and she continues to be a regular and enthusiastic advocate on road safety issues.

Honourable David Hurley AC DSC

2019 – Present

David Hurley was sworn in as the Governor-General of Australia in July 2019. His Excellency was very happy to accept the role of Patron of the Australasian College of Road Safety, taking over from the previous Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove.

David Hurley is a graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon. He had a distinguished 42-year military career which included operations in Somalia and East Timor, and which culminated in the role of Chief of the Defence Force. David Hurley also served as the 38th Governor of NSW, from October 2014 to May 2019.
